Social Media Hour #34: Shredding Conventions and LeWeb 2009

December 02, 2009

What do Beethoven, Geeks and Paris have in common? All three were topics of discussion on this episode of Social Media Hour. Cathy starts the show with The Great Kat, a classically trained musician who's shredding stereotypes, and music. Then it's all croissants and crepes as the discussion turns to the upcoming LeWeb conference in Paris, yes Paris France. First up, Eliane Fiolet and Renee Blodgett of The Traveling Geeks, a group of which Cathy is an original member, talk about their plans and then it's Chris Heuer and Dana Oshiro of ReadWriteWeb to talk about La Social Media Club House. So don your berets, pour a glass of Bordeaux and take a listen!

The Show:

Want to know more about the guests ... then read on...

The Great Kat (Katherine Thomas) is the only Violin Virtuoso turned Guitar Shredder in the world, bringing Classical Music to the masses with Shred Guitar and Speed Metal. After listening to Beethoven since birth, The Great Kat realized that her mission was to become a composer and musical revolutionary. At the age of 15, The Great Kat won a Full Scholarship to attend the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City as a Violin Student. The Great Kat became the Concertmaster of the Juilliard Pre-College Orchestra and won the "Robert Hufstader Scholarship" in Composition and Theory at Juilliard. The Great Kat graduated with Honors from The Juilliard School and began performing, first as a Classical violin soloist at Carnegie Recital Hall as winner of the exclusive "Artists International Competition" and then soloing extensively in Mexico, the U.S. and Europe. After touring the world, The Great Kat realized that Classical music was dead, so she began updating Classical Music with Speed Metal and transcribed intricate violin solos to the guitar. Kat developed a new genre of music: “SHRED/CLASSICAL” Music -- Fast, Furious, and Virtuosic. The Great Kat is the only musician taking note-for-note authentic Classical Music scores (from Vivaldi, Beethoven, Bach, Wagner, Liszt, Paganini, Sarasate, Bazzini, Rossini and more) and entering the original Classical Music scores into music-notation software, editing, arranging and mixing with vicious, raw Speed Metal and Shred Guitar.
